Douglas's Fishing Blog.

Markle Rainbow Douglas

Hello everyone, I have been fishing since the age of 10 and never plan to stop. When I am not fishing I am thinking about it, I fell in love with fly fishing when I was around 15.

6'6" #2 2 peice rod build (update)

Just glued up the handle and the winding check ive decided to leave the butt capand other reel seat fitings until the epoxying of the whippings is complete as it might get in the way of the turner, in anycase its a 2 minute job.Tommorow i might beable to start  wrapping the guides, hookkeeper etc. but waiting on thread and trim to be delivered first.

6'6" #2 2 peice rod build

Promised i'd document this, Just started yesterday . Had my pal Gary help me with some great advice.

1.
first thing was to find the spine on the blank , it was qyite easy to
find it,it was then marked on the underside with a chinagraph pencil.

2
. the next tyhing was to dry build the reel seat and handle to find out
the uppermost point of the handle then mark it with a chinagraph pencil

3 then removed the handle placed some masking tape on the
marked china graph area then lightly sanded the blank below the masking

Killandean

Killandean

I was planning on walking up the Breich the other day but with the snow I decided to walk the Killandean path from the Village to a little beyond Gavieside. It a very nice little burn that will be receiving closer attention this season. Although very small and quite shallow during the summer the burn has some attractive features and a few trout I'm sure. Fishing this burn is going to require a very light touch but I feel I should be able to locate some trout.

First Outing For 2010

River Clyde by Carnwath

The icy weather has got me down a bit as i cant get out fishing, so thought i would cheer myself up and go out on the river and cast a few lines,so decided to go to the River Clyde just  past Carnwath  last Tuesday with my old pal Roy. After a long trek through very muddy farm land i reach the river, it was very calm and lovely conditions for a bit of fishing, i also got to try out my new Airflo 40+ Extreme rod.

The water was cold but bareable so we fished for about 2 hours and caught a great big NOTHING LOL.

anyone sellin a rod?

Im on the lookout for a wee burn rod for the start of the season. 6 or 7 foot, 2 or 3 weight. I was thinking about geting a fladen vantage 7ft #3 because they seem to get good reviews and you can pick them up on ebay for around £20. Im not wanting to spend alot. Anything considered tho!

Almond Pool Clean-up Operation. River Almond Anglers Group (RAAG)

I have sent an e-mail to the council to make arrangements for our first clean-up and I'm awaiting a response. I have set Saturday March 6th as a provisional date for the event and the target area is Almond Pool at Kirkton as discussed. I hope that many members of RAAG will be able to attend and we can start to make a difference on the river and improve the situation for all. I will update here once I hear back from the Council. This should be an easy place to start and the Council will be able to provide a suitable collection point as well as the necessary tools for the job.
