Full Bloom
Went down the river tonight about 20:30 and fisher for an hour. The river is in full bloom and acces without waders is now very limited throught the village. The algae is also in full bloom and caused me a few problems in regards to fishing Nymphs so I switched to dry fly, opting for a grey duster. Over the years I have had many many fish on grey dusters and I find that at night when the light is low it works really well regardless of what the trout are eating. I was fishing my usual pools and runs but didn't get anything othere than a missed take when I uttered the words "Last Cast". I cast my small dry fly into a fast run just down from the mill farm weir and a cheeky little trout came straight up for it. I gathered him in quickly snapped a quick photo on my Phone wich in poor light didn't perform well and released him back in to his run.
With the village stretch becoming so overgrown now I'd suggets wearing waders to be essential.

Algae problems!
Nice wee troot Douglas! It's the same everywhere, apart from the Linhouse (which doesnt have the algae as its no sewage stations), im just back from a wee Dawn raid on a local river-slime city!, if you try some really small beads (1.5mm) on your nymphs you can still adequately fish the pool heads without snagging up too much in the low water and getting gunged too frequently , usually long enough to attract a troot or two anyway.
Linhouse
I might be heading up the Linhouse until the algae dies down a bit. I really hate fishing in it. It makes for some exitement though trying to keep hooked fish out of it. When fishing 2lb leader a 1lb fish and a clump of algae can spell disaster.
Linhouse
I went down to the Linhouse on Tuesday , it's very , very low,and despite the flylife being very abundant the conveyor belt(current) seems to have broken down and is not bringing it down to them there simply taking to the air. It really is quite hard work at the moment , i had about 15 hard earned trout on a mixture of dries, nymphs and wire spiders. As soon as the heavens open, i'll be down there like a shot the following day as thats when it's really, really good!
Stillwaters
I have to get out to some of the local stillwaters soon and get to grips with whats going on onthat front this year. So far I've only been to Pottishaw and Morton, can't seem to drag myself away from the brownies but the next few weeks might be the right time to do it given the condition of the streams.
One great thing about this site is that everybody is fishing different places so it's easy to keep up to date with whats happening.
Storms a'brewing!
Just got caught out fishing in a really nasty shower accompanied with thunder and lightning and a colouring up river, if the heavy showers continue, the rivers might just get a welcome flush out and help scour the bottom of all that algae, If the rain dies away for the weekend the linhouse should be good!
Let's hope so.
I don't mind if the weather is rubbish for the Kids on there Hols to be honest, selfish but true. The river could do with a bit of rain and flush it out. I don't mind fishing in the rain anyway, what I really hate is the wind.
