I am thinking of heading up to Harperrig soon and would be interested to hear if anybody has been up there lately or if we have any regulars to the reservoir scene some advice on flies for this time of year on a water this big would be good.
Cheers
Douglas

I went up to Harperrig on Friday, not the best day for weather. We were rained off for about 4hrs but the short time we had on the water before that was very exciting. My first second and fifth casts all produced fish and another couple of takes before the rain was too much. We returned about 20:30 for a couple of hours at the end of the day and enjoyed some more splashy takes and feisty Brownies.
I was fishing a Black Zulu size 12 and an Invicta size 12 on the dropper, most of the fish came on the Zulu. Just before heading down the road we had a few very enjoyable casts in the bay from the bank and it was more of the same, take take take.
I can't wait to revisit Harperrig and hopefully it will be a more pleasant day weather wise. The fishing was very exciting and the fish were great sport, we did not come accross any stockies but that was not why we were there.
I think a good day on this water could easily produce 40 plus fish per angler.
Sounds like a great day Douglas it's one place on the list this season for the floattube.
I think a day on Harperrig in a float tube sounds ideal. It's quite shallow as you will know and when we were there the water wasn't cold at all. A tube must be easier to move around in than a boat (without an engine) I'd imagine.
It's quite a big water by local standards and although recently stocked with brownies we never seen any stockies. I would rather it was a wild water as there seems to be a large resident population but it's the way things are these days, stock it up and reap the rewards.
