I have not fished with a Booby for probably 15 years but that's through choice. Why is this fly in particular singled out by fisheries as the one to ban ?.
It puzzles me that this fly should be outlawed, is it because of it's killer reputation ?. Looking at the design of the Booby it does not appear to represent more danger to the fish, it is at the end of the day a hook with some dressing like any other fly.
With the advent of hooked indicators and Blobs, perhaps it's time to set the Booby free.
A frightening future - The Obama Deception

I have used this fly a few times in the past and dont understand why it is banned from most fisherie's.
It is a very good fly for the end of a washing line with dropper's.
FREE THE BOOBIES
I think they were banned on some fisheries because of the way they were fished , ie short lenghth of mono hi d line and fished static, you could almost give some anglers a rod rest, this in a lot of cases led to deep hooking , but on a kill ticket i dont see the problem, although the method its probaby more related to bait fishing than active fly fishing. i know they can be fished in many differant ways though , on differant densities of line and thisformof fishing is actually quite skilled. Ive never used them myself , but its just another fly at the end of the day. Lots of flies have been banned on lots of waters at some time. Nymphs on chalksteams and even the Alexandra was banned because of its knack of catching fish.
I have seen it fished deep and static before and this does lead to deep hooking but I have always considered it a dry fly. It's not a fly I have fished often but I would fish it if it were allowed, I would fish it on the surface as a single or as part of a team. Maybe the method of fishing it on a short leader, deep and static should be banned and not the fly itself.
I'm sure fishing it on the surface would induce some awesome takes from Rainbows as Woolly Buggers do fished just under the surface given the right conditions.
One of the places i fished when i frequented rainbow waters over 10 years ago now was beleive it or not was Selmiur, one hatch that used to give fantastic rises was the caenis fly, it was difficult fishing if trying to match the hatch and as they were cruising just inches under the surface their window of vision was very small plus the needle in a haystack scenario with millions of naturals to your artificial . A natural grey coloured(Actually probably any colour) zonker(rabbit strip has natural bouyancy)fished with a fastish figure of 8 retreive would catch their eye resulting in lots of follows and some exciting takes, give it a go.
just my opinion
boobies fished like bait = poaching
I don't consider the use of any fly to be poaching, I guess if it's not allowed or if you are fishing without a permit your breaking rules but poaching is a bit far.
I understand the argument against Boobies but I think it would better serve anglers if the method of fishing them deep and static were outlawed rather than the fly itself.
Would anybody object if it were pike and not Rainbows???
